Why Do Our Bones and Joints go Bad?

          As we get older it is normal for us to see many changes in our every day life based on our bodily changes. As we get older we see multiple changes from the way we see the world to the way we see ourselves. We can grow weaker and even start to see wrinkles on our face and hands.

          Our bodies naturally remove old bones which are then replaced with new bones. Bone is being replaced much more quickly than it is removed when we are young. During this period, our body will tend to build denser and stronger bones. Most people will then reach peak bone mass around the age of 30. At around the age of 40, less bone is being replaced with new ones which then causes the bones to become weaker. Osteoporosis and arthritis are very common to settle in during these times.

          Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become brittle and easy to fracture. Due to having Osteoporosis, the bone density will decrease significantly. This disease can damage any joint but it predominantly affects joints in your hands, knees, hips, and spine. Arthritis is the swelling of one or more joints that also can feel tender. Some symptoms of arthritis are joint pain, joint stiffness and it can get worse as we age.

          Our joints can also go bad because of genes, bad bones and joints can be hereditary believe it or not! Not to mention that some occupations can make these issues set in your body. These occupations include the following and are not limited to: farming, construction, retail, and cleaning. People in these fields of work are more prone to have bone and joint issues due to the fact that they are constantly being active, they are causing more wear and tear on their joints. Another reason our bones and joints go bad is due to the lack of exercise, smoking, being overweight and bad eating habits.
